How are search results ranked? What affects my ranking?

Edited

Our platform uses a unique algorithm to determine how tutors appear in search results. This ranking isn’t random- it takes into account the consistency and quality of teaching, your activity on the platform and the overall experience you provide to students and billpayers.

Some of the main factors that can positively or negatively affect your ranking include:

  • Hours taught – completing more lessons strengthens your ranking.

  • Repeat students – working regularly with the same students demonstrates trust and consistency.

  • Reviews – both the number of reviews and the percentage of positive feedback count.

  • Response times – replying quickly to enquiries improves your ranking; delays in replying can reduce it.

  • Cancellations – frequent last-minute cancellations will lower your ranking.

  • Ignored enquiries – failing to respond to lesson requests negatively impacts your position.

In simple terms: the more consistently you teach, earn positive feedback, and communicate well with parents and students, the higher your profile is likely to rank.

Don’t worry if your ranking dips. The algorithm refreshes regularly, so your position can improve as you continue teaching and engaging on the platform.

Finally, you cannot pay to boost your ranking. We want our search results to remain fair, transparent, and based solely on merit.
