What can I do if I think my student is at risk of harm?

Edited

As tutors, we have the privilege of helping young people from all walks of life reach their potential, and with that comes a duty of care.

If you witness something concerning in a student’s home, or they open up to you about something that’s putting them at harm, then please don’t brush it off – do something.

Whether it’s abuse, violence, self-harm or drug use, please get in touch with us as soon as possible, and we will pass the information onto the relevant authorities.

If you believe the child to be in immediate danger, call the Designated Safeguarding Lead, Michelle Wright, on 02081066898. If you do not believe the child to be in immediate danger, you should complete the Safeguarding Concern Form as soon as reasonably possible.

You can consult our safeguarding policy here for more information, including an in-depth procedure for tutors to follow if they are concerned students are being abused (taken from the NSPCC).
